Brian DeLima
Brian Jon DeLima, 66, of Hilo, died on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 3, 1955 in San Bernardino, California, he was attorney for his own practice at Law Offices of Brian J. DeLima, avid tennis player, served on the Hawaii County Council, the Board of Education, and numerous community organizations.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 2 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; service at 5 p.m. Casual attire.
He is survived by, daughters, Blaise DeLima and Blaire DeLima; mother, Angela Dulay; sisters, Kim (George Christian) DeLima, Cheryl (Nathan Kainoa) DeLima and Celeste Blagrave; sister-in-law, Shelly Crudele; brother, Lance Duyao; brother-in-law, Robert Crudele; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Paige DeLima, 60, of Hilo, died June 6, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born June 26, 1961, in New Jersey, she was a housewife.

Maxine Kalani
Maxine Leimomi Kalani, 58, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 17, 2022 at her residence. Born May 13, 1964, in Hilo, she was a site manager for Hui Malama and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 16 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona; Mass will begin at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.
She is survived by husband, Gerard Kalani; daughter, Nohea (Afa Tualaulelei) Kalani and Napua (Branden) Rasay, all of Kailua-Kona; mother, Geraldine Aumua of Hilo; brothers, Max (Robin) Aiona of Waimea, Jarrett Aiona of Washington, Sam (Cherrie) Aiona of Honolulu, Scot (Kealoha) Aiona of Hilo; sister, Darnelle (Wil) Kahoonei of Washington; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Yorio Onishi
Yorio Onishi, 98, of Hilo, died Aug. 12, 2022 in the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born April 25, 1924, in Papaikou, he retired as a clerk from Jas. W. Glover, member of the Honomu Henjoji Mission and a U.S. Army veteran.
Private services held. No flowers of koden (monetary offerings).
He is survived by sons, Richard (Joni) Onishi, Winfred (Eileen) Onishi, Allan Onishi and Dennis Onishi, all of Hilo; daughter, Lucilla (Wendell) Higa of Hilo; sister, Sueko Yorita of Hilo; brother-in-law, Tomoharu (Sue) Nakamura of Hilo; sister-in-law, Yayoi Nakamura of Hilo; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Amparo Espejo
Amparo Bayani Espejo, 78, of Moreno Valley, Calif., died July 10, 2022, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in the Philippines, she was a stockbroker in the Philippines, an editor for Starcreast Inc., owned a catering business and was a member of St. Christopher Church of Moreno Valley, Calif.
Visitation 4-6 p.m. Sept. 7 at Dodo Mortuary chapel; service at 6 p.m. Visitation also 8:30-9:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church; Mass at 9:30 a.m. Committal services for both Amparo Espejo and her husband, Jerry Alnas Espejo, who died in 1994 in California, will follow at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion at 11 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers.
He is survived by son, Jeffrey Espejo of Keaau; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Arthur Arion Hoke Jr., 86, of Hilo, died Aug. 4, 2022, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Honolulu, was a retired captain with the Hawaii County Police Department, a former Honolulu Police Department officer, roofer for Wester Roofing Co., Inc., owner of Neltra and Associates, member of Ahahui Ku Mauna, former chair of the Mauna Kea Management Board, former pelekikena (president) of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, member of the Ka’u Hawaiian Civic Club and Laupahoehoe Hawaiian Civic Club, Hawaii Island Representative of A.L.O.H.A. (Aboriginal Lands of Hawaiian Ancestry Association), Alu Like (Hooponopono Facilitator), member of Hui Nalu Cano Club and former President, Head Official and member of Moku O Hawaii Canoe Racing Association, radio specialist, U.S. Army Korean War veteran, staff member of the Men’s Ministries at New Hope Christian Fellowship, and a member of the American Legion.
Visitation 9-11 a.m. Sept. 10 at New Hope Church Hilo. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Committal service at noon Monday Sept. 12 at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion. Casual attire.
He is survived by wife, Sibi Hoke of Hilo; daughters, Wanda (Roy) Pua-Kaipo, Kris Hoke and Kehau (Tom) Kalili of Hilo, Shelby (Jim) Oswell of Oregon; sons, Michael (Monique) Hoke Sr. and Brutus Hoke of Hilo, Bruce (Sofia) Ronquillo of Springfield, Va.; hanai children, George and Linda Kaeo of Hilo; hanai daughter, Genesis Kauhi of Hilo; 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Paula Marie (Scanlon) Moniz, 72, of Mountain View, died June 7, 2022, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Canton, Ohio, she was an equipment operator with the state Highways Division and a member of the Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Memorial services 9:30 a.m. Sept. 9 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Lunch to follow at the Hilo Women’s Club. Visitation also 10:30-11:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Kaneohe, Oahu. Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park in Kaneohe. Casual attire; no flowers.
